How I Can Help You

Do you suffer from symptoms such as fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, headaches, acne, sinus congestion, abdominal pain, nausea, brain fog, or other ambiguous symptoms that cause you to feel “not right” or flat out terrible? I work with high school students, college age students, athletes of all ages and busy professionals between the ages of 14-55 years to help navigate the confusing and frustrating realm of health and wellness and to get you feeling better, without medications. The immune system can react to foods and chemicals, resulting in inflammation that causes symptoms. Everyone’s immune system is different and what may bother one person may not bother another.

I’m a licensed dietitian and doctor with extensive experience and certification as a coach. I will take you by the hand and guide you through your education and treatment, answering your questions through phone, email, and in some cases, in person meetings. I will help you with referrals to my team of specialty doctors if that becomes necessary. I’ll help you identify which medications, vitamins and foods are best for your health and help you reach your health goals. Recent research has shown that the gut microbiome has significant impact on allergies, symptoms, mental health and well-being, so we’ll also talk about that and appropriate probiotics.

In medical school, I was trained (as most doctors are) to test for food allergies using a skin prick test. Unfortunately, food sensitivities are entirely different from food allergies. The inflammation resulting from immune system stimulation after certain foods are consumed causes symptoms in most people. Vitamin or micronutrient deficiencies leave the body unable to fight off viruses, bacteria and environmental toxins that can also cause symptoms related to inflammation. Those symptoms may be mild, moderate or severe and are usually ambiguous but result in sports injuries, sleeping problems, appearance or body odor issues or depression/anxiety/difficulty concentrating. Some people eventually develop chronic conditions. These chronic conditions can be misdiagnosed and sensitivities to specific foods then go unaddressed, as do vitamin deficiencies. Ultimately, medications that may work at first will ultimately fail or have decreased effectiveness over time because they are masking symptoms and not getting to the root of the problem. Medications can also have numerous side effects and can even lead to other serious health problems!

If food sensitivities or vitamin deficiencies are causing you to feel bad, you could easily end up suffering for many years, spending thousands of dollars for treatments that will never work.

Do you want to jump start your body’s inherent ability to heal itself?  Do you want to maximize your health and nutrition?  Do you want to increase lean muscle mass and maximize your athletic performance?

Working with me, you will get individualized guidance and learn:

  • How to read nutrition labels quickly and accurately
  • Where to shop to get the foods you need/want and stay within your budget (including gluten free)
  • How to take your favorite recipes and make some simple swaps to make them less inflammatory
  • Understand the myths and facts of nutrition and wellness
  • Understand where to find the best vitamins and how to properly supplement (including the correct dosage for your body)
  • How to use and enjoy WHOLE, REAL FOOD, not protein bars or food substitutes with artificial colorings and additives!
  • What to choose (and why) when eating out

Two simple and objective tests can accurately quantify your inflammatory response to foods, chemicals and which vitamins you are deficient in. The results of the tests will help you better understand which foods you should stay away from, which foods will help your body heal itself and which vitamins you need.

Accurate evaluation of the test results can help us design an effective plan and strategy that will provide you with the path towards improved health, productivity and vitality.

Are you an athlete who wants to maximize your performance?

Maybe you’ve recently been hurt, unable to run or bike, and you want to avoid the next stress fracture or inflamed hamstring.

Perhaps you want to run the Boston Marathon or just break 3:30 or the 3-hour mark in the marathon.  Maybe you even want to break 2:40.

You may just feel more tired than you want to feel as you train.  You want to get closer to your performance goals and feel better.

I’m a runner.  For a long time, I was getting faster and faster, winning races or placing in the top ten in 10K’s, half marathons and even the marathon.  It was awesome.  Then I started to get hurt – over and over again.  I was constantly tired.  Learning about food sensitivities, changing gut microbiota and managing micronutrient levels helped me get back to my best and improved my times.

The athletes that work with me are all trying to maximize their performance and have more energy.  Some are seasoned marathoners or bikers who want to get to the next level in their performance.  Newer athletes have had a taste of the fun and excitement of a race – only to get hurt training for the next one.

If you’d like to talk about how to increase your energy levels and maximize your performance, contact me to tell me your story and to learn more about a performance package just for you!
